Accessing CD/DVD content on an Apple Macintosh

  1. Put the CD into the drive slot, push gently and the drive mechanism will load the CD into the drive.
The data side (the shiny side) has to face away from you, and the label side (the side with writing on) has to face you.
  2. After some seconds (5 - 15 seconds usually) one of the following things should happen:
    a) the Mac will display either a CD icon or an icon with relevance to the contents of the CD/DVD on the desktop, or
    b) will do the above but at the same time start either the appropriate player (if it is a video DVD) or open a finder window, displaying the contents of the topmost folder of the CD/DVD.

If a) happens, just double click on the CD icon, and you will get a list of everything on that CD.

If neither a) nor b) happens, something is very wrong.

Before we proceed, get the CD/DVD out of the MAC again by pressing the EJECT button on your keyboard for more than 3 seconds.

Steps to troubleshoot this:

  1. Reboot or restart your system. Really. Not kidding. Fixes a lot of things. Then try again.
  2. Try a different CD/DVD, one you are certain of that it works fine.

If there is still no progress, the MAC will need to be serviced.
