Part of a larger stamp set commemorationg the German postal service, this stamp represents an important part of Nazi propaganda. With their emphasis on dramatically lit stages and choreographed movements, Nazi rallies created a sense of unity and organic wholeness. Hitler, Goebbels and other leading Nazis recognized, well before coming to power, that rallies could manipulate the multitudes with an emotional, often irrational mob seduction.
The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, feared that democracies would inevitably fall to a demagogue. It is often said that the Nazis confirmed this hypothesis, but whether it is a fair generalization for other western democracies remains a debatable issue!
